StorageLocations.com, created by Denos Communications is a new self storage directory website where you can find storage facilities anywhere in the United States. The whole website is geared toward the internet user in order to make it more efficient when looking for storage.

There are directions to each storage facility as well as links back to the storage facility’s website so you can see what each storage company has to offer. You can search by city, state, or zipcode. Online reservations are offered by Public Storage, Extra Space, U-Store-It, and several others. Storage Locations has also highlighted recommended sites, so you can find a trustworthy facility when looking for storage.

Zoning Passed for Fort Wayne Self Storage

Fort Wayne Self Storage, LLC. has just been approved from the Fort Wayne Board of Zoning Appeals to build a 101,400 square foot storage facility on the Northeast side of Fort Wayne. The was opposition the new storage complex in the beginning, arguing that it would lower the property value of the surrounding properties. However, several other local businesses supported Fort Wayne Storage stating it would make their business location more attractive.

The City Council will make the final decision for the building plans. Currently Fort Wayne has over 30 storage facilities.

Redding, California Self Storage Update

The current economic recession has hit the Redding, California storage scene in both good and bad ways. Several self storage facilities have had drops in the occupany rates and they expect it to keep getting worse until the economy strengthens.

Redding Mini Storage is currently experiencing at 70 percent occupancy rate, down from their usual 90% to 95%. AAA Mini & RV Storage is also experiencing lower occupancy rates after 22 years of business.

On the other hand American Self Storage and 4 Corners Mini Storage have been experiencing higher occupancy rates. 4 Corners manager, Andrea Fierro, has even said they are planning to build an extra 200 storage units to accomodate their customers. Sovran Self Storage Takes 4 Quarter Hit

Sovran Self Storage has reported a 21.4% decrease for price per share dollar amounts. Net income available for shareholders at the end of the 2008 4th quarter, was 8.4 million, or 38 cents per share. in 2007, the company reported a 50 cent per share price. Sovran representatives say this decrease in income may be due to higher finance costs and increased customer incentives.

They are hoping to boost leasing incentives in order to generate more customers in 2009.

Extra Space Re-aligns Management

Extra Space CEO and Founder, Kenneth Wooley, has steppe down from his position in order to take a three year break to serve on a three year assignmment with his church. Current President, Spencer Kirk, will be taking over as CEO. He has been with Extra Space since 1998 and has served as several management positions. He is currently the company’s largest shareholder with 3.3 million shares.

New Mobile Storage in San Antonio

UNITS Mobile Storage has opened its doors to a new 13,000 square foot facilty in San Antonio, Texas. UNITS is a residential and business storage company that allows customers to store their items in 16 foot containers that protect customer’s belongings from mold, residue, and UV rays.

UNITS is the product of Michael McAlhaney, who also created Extra Room Storage. Both of these companies offer franchising opportunities, which is very uncommon in the self storage industry. They plan on selling 50 more franchises in 2009.

Life Storage Center Lawsuit

Libertyville, Illinois - City officials have worked out their differences with Life Storage Center about the new upscale storage facility plans to be built in the city’s business district. The company submitted its plans to the Plan Commission and they were approved, however the Village Board denied the request. They stated that they did not want residents frequently moving their belongings in and out of the business district.

The Village Board and Life Storage Center worked together to make new plans and came up with the concept of local business storage for the surrounding businesses. They have dropped the lawsuit and now they will continue with their storage plans in the same location
